Starting a business raising goats is a venture that hasn’t been pursued by a lot of farmers. Most farmers when it comes to raising livestock raise cows for milk because cows milk is more popular then goats milk. But now a lot of farmers are getting into raising goats because they have realized that raising goats is much easier then raising cattle.
Before you get started in goat farming you have to make sure you have all the resources needed in raising goats. Below are some guidelines on raising goats that you should follow.
– The first thing to do is prepare some land for goats to feed on, call home and play around. For each goat is it recommended that you have at list two acres of land so that your goats don’t over crowd themselves.
– The next thing to do is build a house for your goats. The goat pen will offer shelter for your goats and can be very simple. It should just have walls and a roof. Your goat house can have some sections where your goats can sleep, eat, drink and be milked if necessary. Make sure that you clean the goat house every once in a while.
– Research on the breed type that you will want to raise. This will help you in preparing the right diet for the goats since different goats produce well on their own diet. Once you have chosen your breed make sure that you stock enough food and have a constant supply of water.
– Lastly the area where your goats will graze has to be fenced so they don’t get lost. Again fencing the grazing area will keep out predators that can eat your goats or even thieves.
